MSA-UBC History
Established in 1984, MSA-UBC is affiliated with the MSA National, which is the uniting and coordinating body of all local Muslim Student Associations in North America. Focused on fulfilling the day to day needs of Muslim students on UBC campus, MSA-UBC also works together with other chapters from other universities towards the common goal and purpose of serving the best interests of Islam and Muslims in the United States and Canada.
It is Islam that unites and motivates us to work willingly. Toward this end, we shall:
-
Disseminate Islamic knowledge among Muslims for the purpose of strengthening their commitment to Islam as a complete code of conduct.
-
Present Islam to Muslims and non-Muslims and promote friendly relations and understanding between them.
-
Develop greater understanding and unity among the various language and cultural groups.
-
Conduct social, cultural, religious, and educational activities on campus in the best tradition of Islam.
-
Cultivate brotherly and sisterly relations and foster unity among Muslims at UBC, neighborhood Muslim Student Associations, and Muslim Student Associations throughout North America.
To achieve these goals, MSA-UBC has taken active roles both within the Muslim student community and also the UBC general student population. As we strive to make ourselves visible on campus, we have been regularly participating in selected student-related activities and events. These include participation on Club's Day, UBC Open House, and a number of activities organized by the International House. We also organize events such as Islam Day, public speaking events, fundraising activities, monthly informal afternoon tea gatherings, and social events including BBQs, dinners, and sport activities. We have also a diverse library collection of Islamic materials which is made available to members.
